Very early in life I became aware of cameras and photography. As most of us, our parents recorded our first thises and thats, and, being the first child I got the royal treatment: I’m the only one with a full album. Later on, I helped my father in the dark-room, watching him make exposures and rinsing the prints. At age 13, I was presented with my first camera and that was the beginning of a life-long love of the medium and of exploring the natural world. Along the way there were many detours into a variety of crafts but photography was a constant.
The decision to show my work to the public has been a big shift, a leap of faith, since for the most part photography has been a private, personal trip.
I am attracted to a variety of natural and human-made subjects and their repetitive patterns and enjoy looking closely at them. My most recent work is enlargements of those tiny worlds. As a musician (accordion) and dancer as well, I realize that patterns in nature are similar to patterns in music; they both have a mathematical basis which is fascinating and both have profound affects on our being.
Photography is a meditative process for me. While I’m absorbed in its technical aspects, I’m also very involved in the creative process and believe it is something special. My focus is to share with the viewer and to spark wonder, happiness and peace within them as well.
