Description

Astraeus hygromotricus (Earthstar) grows primarily north of the San Francisco Bay. What a surprise to see them come up in the backyard! There were 5 and this was the best specimen. Imagine my next surprise to find that they were not attached to the ground. They must have been at some point, but I was able to pick each one up then.
